Western Sydney University medicine MMI: format and dates
Checked 19 October 2026 by XScrubs

In short
Western Sydney University runs its medicine MMI over Zoom in late November, with a separate interviewer at each station and about eight minutes per question. Final offers weigh interview performance at 75 per cent and UCAT ANZ at 25 per cent, subject to an academic threshold. Only the published interview period is offered.

The four steps
Western Sydney University sets out four steps for general applicants (external link), meaning Australian or New Zealand citizens and Australian permanent residents applying for the Bachelor of Clinical Science (Medicine)/Doctor of Medicine (MD):
- Register for and sit the UCAT ANZ in the current application year. Results from earlier sittings are not considered, and you must give your UCAT ANZ candidate number in your UAC application.
- Apply through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) and include course 725505 as a preference. For 2027 commencement, applications close at midnight AEST on 30 September 2026 and late applications are not accepted.
- Take part in the multi-mini-station interview (MMI), if invited.
- Meet the academic threshold. The university assesses this only for applicants who took part in the MMI.
How interview invitations work
The university says the UCAT ANZ threshold for interview selection is not determined by your overall UCAT ANZ score, and individual sections may be subject to weighting (external link). So an overall score is not the whole story. UAC lists the invitation date as late October 2026, and the university's dates page (external link) says the end of October. Applicants who are not selected are notified too, and individual feedback on the outcome is not provided.
What the MMI is and how it runs
The university says the purpose of the MMI is to assess non-cognitive qualities important to patients and communities, which are best assessed in person rather than through an online test. For domestic general applicants and Rural Entry Admission Scheme (REAS) applicants the interview takes place by video conference over Zoom. The applicant is asked a series of questions, with a different interviewer at each station and approximately eight minutes to respond before moving to the next station. The page does not give the number of stations, so we do not either.
Dates
- Preference deadline: 30 September 2026, per the university's dates page (external link) and UAC.
- Invitations to interview: late October 2026 (UAC), end of October (university).
- MMI interviews: late November 2026.
- Offers: January Round 1 (UAC (external link)).
The university stresses that no other interview dates are offered. It is your responsibility to be available, no alternative arrangements are made, and an invited applicant who misses the interview on its set date and time is regarded as having withdrawn. Nobody who misses the interview goes forward to final selection.
The academic threshold
Because the university assesses the academic criterion only for people who interviewed, the threshold comes after the MMI. For applicants using secondary results, the university lists an ATAR or equivalent of 95.5 for non-Greater Western Sydney applicants and 93.5 for Greater Western Sydney applicants. UAC lists the same figures, with 91.50 for Rural Entry Admission applicants. Applicants with university study are assessed on their GPA or their ATAR, whichever is higher, and the page sets GPA minimums on a seven-point scale that depend on how much study has been completed. A completed undergraduate degree needs a GPA of 5.5, while a completed honours degree (Class I or II) or research masters needs no minimum.
How offers are decided
The university says final offers are made on the basis of three quarters interview performance and one quarter UCAT ANZ performance, subject to meeting the academic threshold. The page notes that the university has a commitment to Greater Western Sydney, and that a proportion of interview places is allocated to applicants from that area. Those figures make the interview the heavier component, which is why preparing for it is worthwhile.
Preparing
Eight minutes is long enough to build a structured answer. Practise naming the issue, weighing the people affected, choosing a course of action and saying what you would do next, then stopping without repeating yourself. Try it on unfamiliar scenarios and time yourself. Our free sample and the MMI practice sets are a place to begin.
