In short

Curtin ranks applicants for interview using ATAR, the Casper test and UCAT ANZ in a 35:35:30 ratio, then invites top-ranked applicants to a Multiple Mini Interview, mostly face to face. Final offers weigh academic score, UCAT ANZ and interview in a 40:20:40 ratio. Interviews run in December and January rounds.

Curtin asks for more than one test

Curtin's Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) is selected on three academic or aptitude measures plus an interview. The Curtin Medical School 2027 admissions guide (external link) says applicants must sit the UCAT ANZ and also the Casper Test, which is run by Acuity Insights, and Curtin's course page (external link) lists both. The guide adds that applicants are ranked on the total UCAT ANZ score based on the cognitive subtests, together with their ATAR and Casper score. Curtin gives no adjustments for the UCAT ANZ, so any concerns about testing conditions go to Pearson directly. Casper scores are valid only for the admissions year immediately after the test, so applicants should sit it in the year before they plan to start, and anyone re-applying later must take it again. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants are not required to sit the UCAT ANZ or Casper.

Who gets an interview

The guide says applicants are ranked for interview on a weighted sum of their academic merit score (ATAR or equivalent), Casper score and UCAT ANZ score out of 2700, in the ratio 35:35:30 (external link). Only the top-ranked eligible applicants from each entry pathway are invited, and meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an interview or an offer. Curtin cannot give individual feedback on applications, but it says it will try to tell applicants the outcome at various stages. Other published entry points include a minimum ATAR of 95 and Chemistry as a prerequisite. The guide's pathway categories include school leavers, non-school leavers and Curtin course switchers, each ranked on its own academic measure.

The interview

Curtin describes a Multiple Mini Interview. The guide says the interview gives shortlisted applicants a chance to show their communication skills, their critical appraisal of information, their ability to consider important issues and the personal attributes needed in the profession. Interviews are mainly in person, with some online sessions arranged for applicants who cannot travel, such as those interstate or overseas (external link). The guide stresses that the process is the same whether it is online or in person. It does not publish the number of stations, timings or questions, so we do not either.

Applicants are assigned a designated date and time. Interviews run only on dates published by the medical school, and an interview cannot be moved to an unpublished date. Attendance is mandatory to stay eligible for an offer, and a candidate who does not attend, or fails to notify the school in advance, forfeits consideration. The guide also reminds applicants to check their email, including junk folders, regularly.

Dates and rounds

Curtin runs three interview rounds. In the December round, competitive and eligible Western Australian school leavers, Curtin course switchers and Western Australian non-school leavers are invited, using the predicted ATAR for school leavers because actual ATARs are not yet available. In the mid-January round, Western Australian applicants are invited if their final ATAR is competitive and Curtin is still their first preference on 28 December. In the late January round, competitive interstate and overseas applicants are invited to an online interview. The guide's timeline (subject to change) lists:

  • Invitations to the December round: on or after the last day of the WACE exam period.
  • December round MMIs: 3 and 7 December 2026.
  • Mid-January round MMIs: 7 January 2027.
  • Late January round MMIs: 22 January 2027 (to be confirmed).
  • Offers: through TISC, with direct offers from Curtin in February 2027.

TISC's application dates differ from Curtin's, so check the TISC website for deadlines.

How offers are ranked

Applicants are ranked for an offer on a weighted combination of their academic merit score (the actual ATAR or equivalent), UCAT ANZ score out of 2700 and interview performance in the ratio 40:20:40. Curtin does not count Casper in the offer ranking, only in the ranking for interview. The guide also notes that Curtin does not accept transfers from other medical schools into Year 1.

Preparing

Allow time for each requirement separately, because Casper has its own booking and cannot be left to the last moment. For the interview itself, practise explaining your thinking about a short, unfamiliar situation. Our free sample and the MMI practice sets are one place to begin.
